When Kim Heyjung first came to the Philippines, her purpose was to establish a business. And so in 1999, she came to the country as a businesswoman. In 2003, she decided to go back to Korea and then three years later came back to the Philippines to try again in business. In 2015, she found herself closing her business again and it was a very difficult time for her.
She returned to Korea after her business closed down and for six months, Heyjung kept on praying and asking the Lord for His directions. During her prayers, God gave this Word to her: “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8) After receiving this Word, she wept for she knew that this was God calling her to do ministry.
In the same year, she decided to come back to the Philippines but not a businesswoman but as a missionary. She had so many fears and she shared, “I was already 44 at that time. I was thinking how can I go? How can I study anymore?” But because the Lord told her to go she put her faith in Him. Her husband stayed in Korea to do business and supported her as a missionary.
When she came to APNTS, she struggled with the assignments and in overcoming her shyness. But she is thankful for the professors and the students in the seminary for their consideration of her. After her graduation, Heyjung will continue to serve as a missionary in the Philippines. She is currently serving in the Grace Community Fellowship Church where she is one of the intercessors and preachers.
Although in the beginning her intentions in coming to the Philippines was to establish a business, God led her to instead help in establishing His Kingdom here on earth. For Heyjung what the Word of God says in Isaiah 61:1, “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,” is now her purpose in life.
