Rev. Ryan F. Cardinal, Senior Pastor of the Diliman Church of the Nazarene in Quezon City, Philippines since 2011 was appointed District Superintendent of the Metro-Manila District effective 1 October 2020. At age 38, Rev. Cardinal is the youngest District Superintendent of MMD. Rev. Cardinal, who has also served as the District Secretary of the MMD since 2012, succeeds Rev. Arnel Piliin, who served as District Superintendent since 2011, who will assume the responsibilities of Field Strategy Coordinator of the Philippine-Micronesia Field on 1 October.
Originally from Passi City, Ilolilo, Philippines, Ryan Felarca Cardinal is the son of Antonio and Rita Cardinal. After graduating from Passi High School in 1999, Ryan attended Visayan Nazarene Bible College (now Central Philippine Nazarene College) near Cebu City, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Theology degree in 2003. After serving from 2003 as an assistant pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in his hometown, in July 2005 Ryan enrolled at Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary (APNTS) in Kaytikling, Taytay, Rizal, on the outskirts of Metro-Manila. While studying at APNTS, Ryan became co-pastor of the Diliman Church of the Nazarene in Quezon City.
During his senior year, Pastor Ryan married Grace Dela Cruz on 22 December 2007. In April 2008, Ryan graduated from APNTS with a Master of Divinity degree. Pastor Ryan became the Senior Pastor of the Diliman church in 2011, and was ordained an elder in the Church of the Nazarene on 28 January 2012 during the 35th Assembly of the Metro-Manila District.
Rev. Ryan and Pastora Grace Cardinal, who serves as assistant pastor of the Diliman church, are the parents of two children, a daughter, Zahara Geana (born 19 January 2009), and a son, Bhrylle Ryan (born 9 December 2010). Tragically, on 23 January 2020, their newborn son, Kyle Joseph, went to be with the Lord.
