Several APNTS faculty members and alumni joined the Asia Theological Association Triennial General Assembly held in August 12-16, 2019 at TCA College, Singapore. The assembly was attended by around 350 representatives from theological institutions throughout Asia and the world. The delegates gathered to discuss the future of the church and theological education especially in the light of the current generation and its media and technological trends, paradigm shifts, and new practices.

APNTS presence at the assembly included Dr. Irene Yang, current director of the PhD in Transformational Learning program, Dr. Fletcher Tink, director of the PhD in Transformational Development program, and Dr. Dick Eugenio, Academic Dean, who served as a panelist in the plenary session on Digital Christianity and co-presented in the session entitled “The future of Doctoral Programs in Asia.”

Alumni who are serving in different capacities in Asia were also present at the assembly. Dr. Santosh Gnanakan, MACC graduate in 1996, who now serves as CEO of the ACTS Group of Institutions that focuses on education in India, shared his insights as a panelist in the plenary session “Arts and Spirituality.” Active members in the discussion also included Dr. Lawrence Gatawa, MARE graduate in 1999, who most recently resigned as President of Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Cavite, Philippines, and Rev. Prakash Nemade, MDiv graduate in 1995 and current PhD in Transformational Development student, who serves as faculty at South Asia Nazarene Bible College in India.

APNTS programs have been accredited by ATA since 1988. ATA now has 336 member institutions. APNTS’ involvement with ATA has been increasing over the years. For instance, Dr. Dick Eugenio serves as a member of the planning/steering committee for the ATA Theological Consultation for 2020 with the theme “Ethics in Asian Societies: An Evangelical Conversation,” which will be in August 3-6, 2020, in Malaysia.
