On January 15-17, 2013, acclaimed New Testament scholar and former APNTS faculty member, Dr. Dean Flemming, presented this year’s Nielson Holiness Lecture Series. The theme for the four lectures was “Mission and the Life of Holiness: New Testament Perspectives.” Dr. Flemming noted that too often we view holiness only as a matter of personal piety, as a call for isolation from the world, or as a mandate for a kind of crusade against unholy people. Rather, Flemming urged that our holiness must be based on the cross-shaped love of Christ. There must be an attractive beauty of holiness in which mission and holiness exist in inseparable synergy.
Attenders of the lecture series received 0.4 continuing education units. In addition to APNTS students, representatives from the Salvation Army and pastors from the Metro Manila District of the Church of the Nazarene participated. Our students facilitated group discussions following each lecture, while the Salvation Army and the District pastors offered special music.
The Nielson Lectures of APNTS are offered in honor of John and Janice Nielson. John Nielson served as President of APNTS from 1990-2001. He is known for his commitment to living out the experience of holiness in Christ-like character. Janice Nielson inspired many students toward ministry with children.
