The Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary (APNTS), in partnership with the Philippine Children’s Ministries Network (PCMN) and Viva Denmark, recently hosted a webinar presenting the Philippine findings of the Families at the Heart of Child Protection research.
The webinar brought together more than 140 participants from different sectors and organizations committed to the protection and well-being of children and families. The Philippine study forms part of a broader tri-country research initiative involving the Philippines, Honduras, and Zimbabwe.
Led by Dr. Marie Joy Pring-Faraz, Lead Researcher, the Philippine research examined how families can serve as key actors in protecting children’s rights and well-being. The study explored the strengths of Filipino families alongside the social, economic, cultural, and systemic challenges that can affect their capacity to protect and nurture children.
The research was supported by an APNTS team, including Lilikali Awomi and Merry Seng Hkam, who participated in the Technical Working Group consultation. Merry Seng Hkam, an APNTS PhD candidate, also served as the research encoder.
APNTS expresses its gratitude to Dr. Larry Bollinger, APNTS President, for his support of the research, as well as Dr. Cing Sian Thawn and Dr. Lynne Hernandez, who joined the committee for the webinar. Other speakers include: Ms. Maloi Salumbides, Head of the PCEC Family Commission, broadcaster, author, trainer, and family advocate; Ms. Ma. Cherry Venetian A. Nicdao, Training Officer of Masayang Pamilya (MaPa) Org., Inc. and Dr. Jojie Ilagan who moderated the panel discussion.
The event provided an important space for researchers, practitioners, faith-based organizations, and advocates to reflect on how families can be strengthened as an essential part of child protection.
